Paper 1 is common to all NET candidates — every subject, every session. It consists of 50 compulsory questions carrying 100 marks (2 marks each), to be answered in 3 hours alongside Paper 2. There is no negative marking.
Paper 1 is divided into ten units. Logical reasoning questions in Paper 1 test the ability to identify argument structures, detect fallacies, and draw valid inferences. These are among the most learnable question types — the patterns are limited and the method is systematic.

Every NET Paper 1 includes one or more reading comprehension passages followed by five questions. These questions test the ability to identify the main idea, make inferences, understand vocabulary in context, and identify the author's tone and purpose.
